Search Tips

A Keyword Search is a search based on indexes built from the published Physicans' Desk Reference materials and from document keywords.

To Browse a list of keywords, rather than type keywords as search terms, use the Browse Keywords search method.

  1. Select the index for your search (i.e., Brand & Generic Names, Indications, Manufacturer, etc.), type the full or partial keyword, and click Search.

Note:
Do not use Boolean operators (AND, OR, etc.) with a Keyword Search.
Multiple keywords can be used, but should be used with caution.
If you are unsure of the exact spelling of a keyword, type the first few letters.

  1. Multiple matches may be found for your keyword which requires you to select a more specific name, indication, prescribing category, etc.

  2. Move throughout the monograph using the Document Outline links or by using the scrollbar

  1. Type the full or partial keyword and click Search. All keyword searches automatically perform a word expansion on your keyword. For example, from Herbal Medicines if you search on meadow, the interim search results return: Meadow Anemone, Meadowbloom, Meadow Cabbage, Meadow Lily, Meadow Queen, etc. Your search term is used as a beginning basis, or "begins with", and finds all matches to the term typed, plus any expansions to the search term.

    Note:
Do not use Boolean operators (AND, OR, etc.) with a Keyword Search.

Multiple keywords can be used, but should be used with caution.
If you are unsure of the exact spelling of a keyword, type the first few letters (minimum of 3 characters/letters required).

Related Keywords - Some searches will produce synonymous cross references and links to related keywords. Using the Indications index search as an example, click on the letter "R". The interim search results return links to "Rash, unspecified -- See under Skin inflammatory conditions as an Indication" and "Rash, diaper". Rash, unspecified is linked to several other related keywords, i.e., Dermatitis, Dermatoses, etc. Cross referencing and linking of related keywords allows you to narrow a broad search to the exact and specific keyword desired.

  2. If multiple matches are found, scroll to and click the desired keyword.

  3. To open the document and view the information, scroll to and click the appropriate link.
