Search Tips

We hope you will find getting around the PDR Electronic Library site intuitive and easy. Content has been organized into logical components; functions have been simplified to make information retrieval as fast and easy as possible.

In case you need a little clarification, the main elements of the PDR Electronic Library have been identified below:

The functional areas of the PDR Electronic Library have been seperated into the following main areas:

PDR SUITE
INTERACTIONS
HERBAL MEDICINES
STEDMAN'S DICTIONARY

Go to each main area by clicking the tab name. To reach the sub-functions (i.e., Browse, Keyword Search, Full Text Search, Updates, etc.) click one of the active buttons below the main tab name.

Click HOME to return to the log in page:

Click Return to Thomson Healthcare to return to the log in page:


Or use the Log Out button (top, right side of the page) or the Log Out link (bottom of the page) to close your browser session and free up the connection to the PDR Electronic Library website.

Click PDR to go to the Physicians' Desk Reference search page.

From this page you can Browse or Search by Keyword using the indexes (i.e., Product Name, Side Effect by Product, Side Effect by Side Effect, Drug Interaction by Product, or Drug Interaction by Food, etc.)

 Click PDR SUITE to go to the Physicians' Desk Reference search page. This is the default HOME page.

From this page you can click:
KEYWORD SEARCH - to search by typing a keyword;
BROWSE - to search by selecting the first letter of the product or substance; or
FULL TEXT SEARCH - to create a more complex search query, using Boolean operators and connectors.

Click MULTI-DRUG to create a multi-drug interaction report.

 

Click INTERACTIONS to create a regimen of multiple drugs and/or foods, or to find all known interactions for a drug or food.

 

Click SEARCH to create a complex search using Boolean operators and connectors.

 Click PDR SUITE then click FULL TEXT SEARCH - to create a complex search query, using Boolean operators and connectors.

Click STEDMAN'S to access the Stedman's Medical Dictionary.


You can search by first letter or type the full or partial medical term.

Click STEDMAN'S DICTIONARY to access the Stedman's Medical Dictionary.

From this page you can click:

DICTIONARY SEARCH - to search by typing the full or partial medical term.

BROWSE - to search by first letter of the medical term.

Click HELP to access the Table of Contents for the online help.

Click on the question mark on any page to open the online help for that topic.

The Help link at the bottom of every page opens the full Table of Contents for the online help.

Click FEEDBACK to e-mail us with your comments.

 Click the Contact Us link at the bottom of the page to send MICROMEDEX an e-mail with your feedback.

 

Click PDR ADDENDA to view a hypertext link of documents that have been integrated into the online product since the last print release.

From PDR SUITE, click the UPDATES link in the navigation bar to view a list of documents which have been integrated into the online product since the last print release.

Click HERBALS to search for information from the PDR(R) for Herbal Medicines.


From the HERBALS page, you could select to search the index or perform a full text search of Herbal Medicines.

Click HERBAL MEDICINES to search for information from the PDR(R) for Herbal Medicines.


From this page you can click:
KEYWORD SEARCH - to search by typing a keyword;
BROWSE - to search by selecting the first letter of the product or substance; or
FULL TEXT SEARCH - to create a more complex search query, using Boolean operators and connectors.
UPDATES - to view the list of documents which have been integrated into the online product since the last print release.

Move to a different section in the document using the drop-down list box.

Navigate within a document using the document outline hypertext links.

Close or collapse the Document Outline by clicking the minus sign ( - ) in the upper right corner of the Document Outline box.

Begin a search of Stedman's Medical Dictionary from within a document.

Breadcrumb - Shows you where you've been each step along the way. Return to any of the pages by clicking the linked step name.


A summary of your search is available from some searches.

Re-sorting results - not available

Sidebar: A recap of your search is available from all searches. Close the search recap sidebar by clicking the minus sign ( - ).

Sort By: Some searches allow you to re-sort the results. To re-sort: click the drop-down arrow, select the desired sort, then click the Sort button.

Searches can be simple (one set of operators, searching one document section or entire document) or advanced (multiple sets, searching multiple areas, select prescribing categories or manufacturers).

Print Options:
Pages displaying a document or interactions list normally offer two print options: - print the entire document (or list of results), and print selected document sections.

Print the Entire Document or List: Click the icon that resembles a computer printer. The complete document or list (search results or interactions list) will be be sent to print at your default printer.

Print Selected Sections: Click the icon that resembles a piece of paper with the letter 'A' on it. The Print Set-up page will display, allowing you to select the sections you want on your printout. Click the sections desired, then click Create Print-Ready Document. For more information on printing, see the Printing Help Topic.
